At Cary Elementary, we strive to help our students become lifelong learners with the skills needed in the 21st century. Media and Technology skills are key and we integrate these into our curricular areas so that they are used as integral tools in the acquisition of knowledge.
Our Media Center operates on a predominantly flexible schedule, which means that students are able to come and checkout books as often as desired. This open-scheduling model also gives teachers the freedom to schedule multiple sessions in a short period of time so that their students can effectively utilize the resources available for class projects and research. Students, teachers, parents, and staff enjoy utilizing the Media Center to meet their pleasure reading and information seeking needs.

Every classroom has 4-5 networked computers with access to our school network resources as well as the Internet. Each classroom also has an interactive whiteboard, television with a VCR, and access to a school-wide cable network. Grade level teams have a document camera, digital camera, and a Flip video camera, in addition to the ability to check out other items from the media center.
WCES: Cary Elementary's Live Morning News ShowOur school has a full-time Media Specialist and a part-time Technology Resource Teacher to assist students and staff with their information and technology needs. Both specialists work with classroom teachers in the integration of media and technology skills into the other curriculum areas. They also assist in a variety of ways: planning, collection of resources, and team-teaching. The Media Specialist and the technology resource teacher, as well as the classroom teachers, use the NC Standard Course of Study as the basis for their instruction and integration opportunities. Some grade levels attend technology classes during the week as part of their specials rotation.
We have a 30 station computer lab that includes an interactive white board and printers. The lab is used for class instruction in the specials rotation and by classroom teachers for whole group activities and instruction.
