At Cary Elementary, we strive to help our students become lifelong learners with the skills needed in the 21st century. Media and Technology skills are key and we integrate these into our curricular areas so that they are used as integral tools in the acquisition of knowledge.
Our Media Center operates on a predominantly flexible schedule, which means that students are able to come and checkout books as often as desired. This open-scheduling model also gives teachers the freedom to schedule multiple sessions in a short period of time so that their students can effectively utilize the resources available for class projects and research. Students, teachers, parents, and staff enjoy utilizing the Media Center to meet their pleasure reading and information seeking needs.

Every classroom has between 2-4 networked computers with access to our school network resources as well as the Internet. Each classroom also has a television with a VCR and access to a school-wide cable network. Teachers may check out digital cameras and video cameras for use within the classroom.
WCES: Cary Elementary's Live Morning News ShowOur school has both a Media Specialist (full time position) and a Technology Resource Teacher (80% position) to assist students and staff with their information needs. Both specialists work with classroom teachers in the integration of media and technology skills into the other curriculum areas. They also assist in a variety of ways: planning, collection of resources, and team-teaching. The Media Specialist and the TRT, as well as the classroom teachers, use the NC Standard Course of Study as the basis for their instruction and integration opportunities.
Our school's computer lab is called the TRACKS lab to continue the theme of our school mascot, the cougar. TRACKS is an acronym that stands for the purpose of the lab: Technology Reinforcing Academics, Creativity, Knowledge, and Skills.
We have a 26-station computer lab, located just off of the main entrance lobby, has a scanner, data projector, and printers. Scheduling for this room is 45% flexible and 55% fixed. Classes can be scheduled in two methods: team-taught with the Technology Resource Teacher (TRT) or lab time with the classroom teacher only.
